Product Description:
Known as the City of Parks, Louisville has long valued the natural landscape and the provisioning of outdoor recreation. In 1891 Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of American landscape architecture, was commissioned to develop an extensive park system for Louisville that eventually included 18 parks and 6 interconnecting parkways. Since that time, Louisville has continued to invest resources to build a first-class park system. Nestled within the Ohio Valley, and bordered by the knobs region to the south and the heavily forested areas of Indiana to the north, Louisville lies at the heart of an endless array of hiking opportunities.

Five-Star Trails: Louisville showcases many of the hiking trails and walking paths within the city or within easy driving distance in central Kentucky and southern Indiana. Designed specifically for day trips, this book includes several of the area's most popular parks, as well as many of the lesser-known hiking trails in nature preserves, wildlife management areas, and national forests.

Product Description:
Perched high on bluffs above the Ohio River, Clifty Falls State Park boasts great hiking, scenic waterfalls and camping at a family friendly campground. Taking its name from the falls on Clifty Creek, the park got its start from 570 acres given to the State by Madison residents. Numerous picnic areas and shelters allow families a good spot to relax while enjoying a picnic meal. Visitors wanting to stay in comfort can book a room at the Clifty Inn. The Inn boasts a restaurant, swimming pool and sitting area that overlooks the river. Hikers can traverse a historic railroad tunnel on one of the trails. The tunnel formed a part of the Madison and Indianapolis Railroad, which went bankrupt before the tunnel saw use. Clifty Falls features over thirteen miles of hiking trails. The park has four waterfalls, most accessible only by trail. The main falls, a sixty foot cascade, is near Clifty Shelter and accessible to picnickers. The Indiana State Park Travel Guide Series will encompass all the family friendly Indiana State Parks. Indiana’s State Park system is one of the finest in the United States. With great hiking trails, history, camping and nature, there is something for everyone at a family friendly Indiana State Park.
